چکیده

Abstract Assessing landscape connectivity allows defining the degree to which facilitates or impedes movement of a species between resource patches. In this phase climate change and biodiversity crisis, maintaining by restoring protecting connecting areas corridors is key strategy ensure survival many species. The Eurasian otter ( Lutra lutra ) freshwater top predator that slowly recovering after dramatic decline occurred in central southern Europe last century. To assess chances recolonization western Alps, we analyzed environmental applying electrical circuit theory an expert-based resistance surface using Circuitscape software. study area included southeastern France, northwestern Italy, Switzerland. We produced cumulative current flow map gap analysis was also conducted highlight “conservation gaps” for optimal corridors. results revealed orography main factor influencing quantity quality pathways Alpine landscapes. As were concentrated on valley bottoms, human pressure could severely diminish animal movement. Despite this, some heavily populated showed high values. Some important did not fall within protected areas, potentially hindering dispersal highlighting need expand system arc. Recolonization territories otters can therefore only occur if suitability combine animals' over time.

Hepatocellular adenoma in a Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra)

A 7-year-old female Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) at the Seoul Grand Park, Korea, died after displaying depression, anorexia, weight loss and rough skin for several days. At necropsy, a solitary friable round mass, which was approximately 12 x 9 x 5 cm and mottled dark red and yellow, was found bulging from the right hepatic lobe. Microscopically, the nonencapsulated, poorly circumscribed mass w...

Quantification of perphenazine in eurasian otter (Lutra lutra lutra) urine samples by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Perphenazine enanthate has been used in wild animals as a tranquilizer during the period of adaptation to new environments to reduce stress, mortalities and injuries. A gas chromatographic procedure for the quantitative measurement of perphenazine in otter urine has been developed and validated. The method involved an enzymatic hydrolysis with beta-glucuronidase-arylsulfatase from Helix pomatia...

The Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) as a potential host for rickettsial pathogens in southern Italy

Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis and rickettsiosis are zoonotic tick-borne diseases of canids caused by the intracellular obligate bacteria Ehrlichia canis and Rickettsia species respectively. In this study, we investigated using standard and real-time PCR and sequencing, the occurrence and molecular characterization of E. canis and Rickettsia species in the Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) from the s...

Genetic diversity of the Eurasian Otter (Lutra lutra) population in Israel.

The Israeli population of Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) marks the Palearctic southern boundary of the species' distribution in the Levant. During the 20th century, the otter population in Israel experienced a dramatic decline due to anthropogenic habitat alterations. Currently, the otter population in Israel is estimated at about 100 individuals and defined as "Critically Endangered". The aim of...

Sexual dimorphism of the Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) in South Korea: Craniodental geometric morphometry

Sexual dimorphism of the craniodental morphology of the Eurasian otter in South Korea was studied with geometric morphometrics. 29 adult skulls (15 males and 14 females) were used. Images of the dorsal and ventral view of the cranium and right lateral view of the mandible were taken and then digitized, and measurements were taken on the right side. Results showed that size difference between ma...
